Las Vegas, NV (KXNT) – A judge Tuesday refused to grant bail for a 19-year-old man charged with causing a 12-car accident that killed two people earlier this month.
Among other charges, Jose Gutierrez faces two counts of open murder for the crash at Cheyenne and Jones back on November 18th. The crash killed Gutierrez’ pregnant girlfriend and another man who was simply waiting for the traffic signal to turn green.
Numerous people were hospitalized with injuries ranging from minor to critical.
Murder charges were added to the original counts in the days following the crash, with Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson saying that evidence had come to light that made prosecutors believe that Gutierrez intentionally caused it.
Attorneys for Gutierrez say that they believe he suffered a medical episode, saying that he had suffered from seizures since he was younger.
Gutierrez is next due back in court on December 9th.
