According to the Boulder City Police Department, kids who were playing in a desert area discovered a canister and thought it was some kind of food and wanted to open it up to see what was inside. They took it to a house and once they got it open and read the tag inside, they told their parents.

The parents then notified police, who contacted the bomb squad, who contacted experts from Nellis Air Force Base. Those experts from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit identified the explosive as an “AN-M120 Bomb Fuse” with a date of "May 1944" on it. They said that the device could still be considered “live” if armed, as it was stored in a metal container.

Meanwhile, the area where the kids discovered the device was swept, and no other devices were found.
