The crash happened on Charleston just west of U.S. 95 at Sandhill just before 7am. According to a release from Metro Police, the bicyclist attempted to cross Charleston outside of a marked crosswalk and slammed into the rear of the tractor trailer. That man died at the scene.

All lanes in both directions of Charleston west of 95 were closed for hours, finally reopening just before 1pm.

The truck driver left the scene, but later returned after he was contacted by police, who say that the driver may not have even known the bicyclist had crashed into him. Police say the truck driver, 51-year-old Victor Lozano-Vega, showed no signs of impairment.

The accident remains under investigation, and is the 101st traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction in 2022.
