Las Vegas, NV (KXNT) – A former basketball standout at Bishop Gorman High School has plead guilty to charges related to a fatal wreck that happened in December of 2020.
Police say Zaon Collins was speeding and driving impaired when he crashed into a car being driven by 52-year-old Eric Echevarria near Blue Diamond and Fort Apache
Police say Collins’ was driving nearly 90 mph in a 35 zone when he hit Echevarria.
Collins’ case was delayed numerous times, with his lawyers arguing that the DUI charge against the then 19-year-old Collins was based on an unconstitutional Nevada law regarding driving while under the influence of marijuana.
Collins has been on house arrest since the crash. He was sentenced to a stipulated 90 days on the vehicular manslaughter charge. He will be sentenced on the reckless driving charge on July 2
