Las Vegas, NV (KXNT) - The City of Henderson Animal Care and is rolling out a new public dog fostering program, designed to provide much-needed breaks for shelter dogs and help find them their forever homes.

The new initiative allows people to foster shelter dogs temporarily, offering them a change of environment and the chance to meet and play with potential adopters.

The program will be available to dogs who meet the following conditions:

-          Must be spayed/neutered, up to date on vaccinations (2 sets of vaccines and rabies), and microchipped

-          Must be over the age of 6 months

-          Available for adoption after 4 weeks or more

Through the new program, the public can “check out” a dog for a field trip or overnight stays, offering the dog a temporary break from the shelter environment. The foster-to-adopt option will allow individuals to foster a dog for up to 30 days, with the option to adopt after the 30-day period ends.

No appointments are necessary, with all fosters and adoptions done on a first come/first serve basis.

The animal shelter is located at 300 East Galleria Drive, and is open Monday through Saturday from 9:00am to 5:00pm. Adoptions close at 4:30pm daily.
