Henderson names its new police chief

Las Vegas, NV (KXNT) - The City of Henderson didn't have to go very far in its search for a new chief of police.

After a nationwide search, the city named Reggie Rader as its new police chief. Rader's first day on the job will be July 7th.

Rader is a long-time Henderson resident, graduated from Green Valley High School and most recently served as Deputy Chief with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. In that role, he oversaw more than 400 commissioned and civilian employees across a range of critical operations, including community engagement, counterterrorism, and youth outreach.

Throughout his career, Chief Rader has held leadership roles in a wide range of assignments, including:

- Captain of the Organizational Development Bureau, overseeing the Police Academy and Field Training.
- Captain of the Southeast Area Command, where he led efforts that significantly reduced violent crime and officer-involved shootings.
- Detective, Sergeant, and Lieutenant for the Gang Task Force.
- Served in other special assignments, including Patrol

Chief Rader was also awarded the highest law enforcement honor, the Medal of Valor, in 2016. He was a long-time member of the LVMPD Honor Guard, recognized with multiple Exemplary Service Awards, and was instrumental in establishing the Incident Command System following 1 October.

Chief Rader holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice Administration from Columbia Southern University and is a graduate of both the FBI National Academy and the Senior Management Institute for Police (SMIP).
