Henderson Police sergeant recovering after getting struck by fleeing suspect

Las Vegas, NV (KXNT) – A Henderson Police Department sergeant is recovering after being struck by a car on Monday afternoon.

According to HPD, police were alerted to a stolen license plate in a parking lot near Lake Mead and Boulder Highway. When the sergeant approached to vehicle to talk to the driver, the driver took off, striking the officer.

HPD says the sergeant then fired his weapon, striking the driver in the arm.

The driver, identified as 43-year-old Jonathan Gaston drove a short distance away to another parking lot where he hit another car before fleeing on foot. Gaston was taken into custody a short distance away. He faces a number of charges including Attempted Murder with a Deadly Weapon.

A person who was in the car with Gaston was questioned, but later released.

The sergeant who was hit has yet to be identified. He was taken to Sunrise Hospital, but released a couple of hours later.
