Las Vegas, NV (KXNT) - The Nevada Department of Transportation on Tuesday celebrated the substantial completion of the I-15 South Widening Project, a major infrastructure investment designed to increase capacity and support continued growth in the area.

The $71 million project was delivered on schedule and under budget. Construction began in January 2024 and reached substantial completion this December.

Crews were able to do the project without too much impact for drivers during daylight hours, either, with most of the bigger restrictions kept to the overnight.

So what did crews do?

· Widened I-15 from six to eight general-purpose lanes between Sloan Road and St. Rose Parkway

·  Widened I-15 from six to 11 general-purpose lanes between St. Rose Parkway and Blue Diamond Road

·  Restriped I-15 between St. Rose Parkway and Blue Diamond Road

·  Resurfaced bridges and preserved pavement at the Blue Diamond interchange

·  Constructed six new sound walls near qualifying residential areas

The widening project was the second major construction project involving I-15 to be completed this year. In late September, the 3-year project that completely re-did the I-15/Tropicana interchange finished up.
