Las Vegas, NV (KXNT) - On what was forecast to be one of the hottest days so far this year, Las Vegas firefighters were kept busy Wednesday morning, responding to three working house fires in the city within a four-hour period.
The first fire broke out just before 9am near Torrey Pines and Vegas Drive. When firefighters arrived, smoke and flames were visible from the roof of a two-story house on New Wood Avenue. Firefighters found fire in the attic and were able to confine most of the damage there. The cause is under investigation.
Firefighters were then dispatched to a home near Washington and Tonopah.
On arrival, heavy smoke and flames were showing from the roof of a one-story house. There was heavy fire in the attic of the house. Firefighters were able to keep most of the damage in the attic, but there was some damage to the first floor. One firefighter suffered a shoulder injury and was taken to the hospital to have it examined. The cause is under investigation.
Two hours later, firefighters then responded to a fire in the attic of a vacant, one-story house in the area of 16th and Charleston.
Flames were showing from the roof on arrival. Firefighters were able to quickly put the fire out. The house was vacant, but being used by squatters.
The causes of all three fires remain under investigation.
