Las Vegas, NV (AP) - A Las Vegas man has pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge in the death of his young daughter who was left in a hot car last year.

28-year-old Sidney Deal entered an Alford plea in order to avoid the possibility of being convicted or more offenses or of a greater offense.

An Alford plea does not require a person to admit guilt.

Deal was originally charged with felony child abuse.

As part of the plea agreement, prosecutors said Deal is facing a maximum sentence of one year in jail.

Authorities said 21-month-old Sayah Deal died on Oct. 5.

The Clark County coroner determined the child died as a result of a heat stroke and exposure to high temperatures.

Prosecutors said Deal believed the air conditioner was on in the car and didn’t think his daughter was in danger.
