Las Vegas, (NV) – A Las Vegas Metro Police officer was shot and killed Tuesday afternoon after responding to a call of a man with a gun acting erratically at a southeast valley business.

Shortly before 4:00 p.m., police responded to a 911 report of an armed, visibly intoxicated individual waving a firearm outside a business in the 4500 block of East Tropicana Avenue.

When officers located the suspect near Mountain Vista and the I-11 overpass, the suspect opened fire. A gun battle ensued, during which Officer Austin Abdelnabi was wounded, and the suspect was shot and killed

Officer Abdelnabi was rushed to the University Medical Center (UMC) trauma unit, but died from the wounds he suffered.

Following his passing, law enforcement vehicles from multiple agencies gathered for a formal procession to escort the fallen officer from UMC to the Clark County coroner’s office. Clark County officials ordered flags at county buildings to be lowered in his honor.

Abdelnabi joined Metro in 2023 after a stint in the United States Marine Corps.
