Las Vegas, NV (KXNT) - This Memorial Day Weekend, the Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP)will be joining Forces with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and the California Highway Patrol targeting the highly traveled traffic corridors between California and Las Vegas.
The multiple agencies will target speeding vehicles, “shoulder runners”, move over law violators, distracted driving violations, and seatbelt violations however all traffic violations will be enforced no matter the severity. Motorists will be warned by the DMS electronic freeway signs which will flash the message “Move Over or Slow Down for Stopped Emergency Vehicles” as well as “Entering NHP Zero Tolerance Zone” as a reminder to be safe.
On Friday, NHP and CHP will concentrate enforcement efforts near the Primm area and St. Rose Parkway. Travelers are reminded from Primm, Nevada to St. Rose Parkway is designated a “Zero Tolerance” zone. Even the most minor traffic infraction will be enforced on this busy holiday week. The goal of both agencies is to increase overall safety and to have zero fatalities on our roadways during this busy holiday weekend.
On Monday, the combined enforcement activity will Expand to include the US-95 corridor along with Interstate I-15. There will be extra patrols (NHP, LVMPD and CHP) to enforce driving within marked travel lanes on I-15. Due to the frequent twelve mile or greater traffic jams on interstate I-15, travel apps often advise travelers to use US-95 to travel south from Las Vegas to the Los Angeles area. Additional speed enforcement patrols are being added to US-95 south of Boulder City, and Nipton Road (Nevada SR-164) between Searchlight, and I-15.
CHP will focus their efforts on the California side of Interstate I-15 and Nipton Road and will include the use of their fix winged aircraft that measures speed from the air.
