
Las Vegas, NV (KXNT) – Lois Tarkanian, longtime Las Vegas City Councilwoman and wife of UNLV Runnin’ Rebels coaching legend Jerry Tarkanian, died Monday at the age of 90.
Tarkanian arrived in Las Vegas in 1973 when her husband took the job as UNLV’s head basketball coach.
She on the served on the Clark County School District School Board for 12 years then was elected to the Las Vegas City Council, where she served for 14 years, rising to the position of mayor pro tem. Term limits forced her out in 2019
A middle school was named in her honor in 2006.
Most recently, Tarkanian was elected to the Nevada Board of Regents in 2020.
Tarkanian was 90. No cause of death has been released.
