Las Vegas, NV (KXNT) – A man charged with causing a multi vehicle wreck that killed and unborn baby and sent several to the hospital over the weekend faced a judge on Tuesday.

During the hearing for 27-year-old Maximiliano Chavez, it was clarified that Chavez had posted $250,000 bail and would appear again in court on Sept. 22 at 9:30 a.m.

Police say that Chavez was driving impaired on Saturday afternoon when he ran the red light at Las Vegas Boulevard and Windmill Lane, causing a chain reaction crash that closed the intersection for several hours.

Chavez failed sobriety tests that were taken at the scene.

It’s not the first time that Chavez has had a DUI. He has a misdemeanor DUI in Nye County on his record from 2021.

Chavez faces one count of DUI resulting in death, two counts of DUI resulting in substantial bodily harm, and three counts of reckless driving resulting in death or substantial bodily harm.
