Las Vegas, NV (KXNT) – On Wednesday, a judge ruled that a man being held for the shooting death of a Metro Police officer in 2022 is incompetent to stand trial.

The judge ruled that 25-year-old Tyson Hampton instead will be sent to a state psychiatric facility near Sparks for further observation and treatment.

Hampton is charged with shooting and killing officer Truong Thai back in October of 2022. Officer Thai was responding to a call of a domestic disturbance near Flamingo and University Center.

Hampton’s trial had been delayed due to the suspect’s uncooperative behavior. 8 news Now reported that Hampton’s attorneys say their client had recently stopped receiving visitors, and has been exhibiting increasingly paranoid behavior.

A new trial date is pending following the findings of the doctors at the facility in Sparks.
