Las Vegas, NV (KXNT) – Roads near Reid International Airport were closed Wednesday afternoon after a man was shot and killed while attempting to carjack a driver.

Las Vegas Metro Police say the incident started when they saw a man spray-painting a wall near Hacienda and University Center. The man took off running, and police say he pulled out a gun.

At the intersection of Russell and Paradise, investigators say that the man pointed a gun at a vehicle in an attempt to take it. The driver of that vehicle was also armed, though, and shot and killed the carjacking suspect.

Metro says the man who fired the shots is fully cooperating and right now no charges have been filed in the case.

The identity of the man who was killed has not yet been released.

Metro is asking anyone who was near the scene to contact them, or to use Crime Stoppers (702-385-5555, www.crimestoppersofnv.com) if they wish to remain anonymous.
