Las Vegas, NV (KXNT) – There were tense moments on the UNLV campus Thursday afternoon after police arrested a man with a gun.
In a statement from the university, just before 1pm, University Police received reports of an man with a concealed weapon in the Financial Aid and Cashiering Offices on the southwest part of UNLV’s Maryland Parkway Campus.
As police approached the suspect, he fled from the scene on foot. Officers soon after apprehended the suspect on campus without further incident. The suspect did not brandish the weapon at any time during the incident.
The man is in custody and is being held at the Clark County Detention Center on charges of possession of a firearm on school grounds, resisting arrest, and trespass.
Campus officials stressed that this was an isolated event, and that there is no ongoing threat.
There will be an enhanced visible presence by police in the area of the incident and throughout the UNLV campus.
