Las Vegas, NV (KXNT) – Las Vegas Metro Police arrested 5 people during a protest of President Trump’s crackdown on illegal immigration Monday night.
According to Metro, LVMPD was made aware of a planned protest near Charleston and Lamb. LVMPD sent additional officers to the area to ensure a peaceful event.
Initially, the protest was peaceful, but as more people showed up, large groups ran into the intersection shutting down traffic and additional officers were requested. A dispersal order was given to the crowd in English and Spanish.
The protesters ignored the dispersal order and again attempted to take over the intersection. Several disruptive individuals were identified and arrested. This led to protesters throwing rocks and bottles at officers.
Officers formed a skirmish line, and the dispersal order was verbalized to the protesters in English and Spanish providing clear instructions on how to leave the area. Most of the protesters left the area once the skirmish line started approaching the crowd.
By approximately 11:30 p.m., everyone had dispersed.
5 individuals were arrested for various charges, including one for attempting to hit officers with a motor vehicle, and a juvenile arrested for pointing a firearm at the LVMPD Air Unit.
No officers reported any use of force, and no officers were injured. Two patrol vehicles sustained minor damage during the protest.
