Las Vegas, NV (KXNT) – Las Vegas Metro said Tuesday that they have positively identified the person they say strangled a woman to death back in 1994.
The case marks yet another cold case murder that the department has solved thanks to improved technology.
Melanie White, 27 years old at the time was strangled to death back in August of 1994. DNA gathered at that time was unable to provide detectives with a positive match for a suspect and the case went cold.
Thanks to new technology, and cooperation with the non-profit organization Vegas Justice League, recent examination of DNA samples in the case lead investigators to identify Las Vegas resident Arthur Lavery as the person who killed White. Metro did not say what the relationship was between the two. Lavery was 38 at the time of White’s murder
Lavery died in 2021 of complications from COVID-19.
