Las Vegas, NV (KXNT) – A Las Vegas Metro Police K-9 is being released from a veterinary care center following treatment for stab wounds received while trying to subdue a suicidal subject last week.

Police were called to an apartment complex near Las Vegas Boulevard and Charleston last Friday after a man called to say he was suicidal.

Upon arrival the man, identified as 64-year-old Thurman Lowe, then set fire to his apartment and caused a barricade situation. When Lowe came out of his apartment, he was armed with a knife. Officers used less lethal means in an attempt to subdue Lowe, including sending K-9 Enzo.

Lowe stabbed the dog multiple times before Metro was able to take him into custody. The dog was airlifted out for surgery and is expected to make a full recovery.

Lowe has more than just the Las Vegas trouble to worry about, as it was revealed over the weekend that he was also being sought for a murder in St. Louis. Police there say that Lowe shot and killed a man, then set fire to the victim’s home in an attempt to destroy evidence

Lowe is currently still recovering in a hospital from stab wounds that police say were self-inflicted.
