Las Vegas, NV (KXNT) – Officers with the Las Vegas Metro Police Department shot and killed a man they were chasing following an attempted traffic stop near Sahara and Paradise early Tuesday.

A release from the LVMPD said that officers had observed a suspicious vehicle in the area back into a parked car. When the driver of the suspicious vehicle got out to check the damage, Metro attempted to speak to the man. The person then took off on foot.

Metro says that during the pursuit, the man produced a weapon and pointed it at the officer in pursuit.

Backup was called, and the suspect was cornered. Metro says that repeated commands for the suspect to drop his weapon weren’t followed, causing officers to shoot the man. He died at the scene.

The man’s identity has not yet been released, nor have the names of the officers involved.

It marked the 1st officer-involved shooting for Metro so far in 2024.
