Earlier in the week, close to 300 dogs were discovered at a property in Amargosa Valley. Police say the dogs lived in filthy conditions. Oskana Higgins and Vasili Platunov face multiple felony animal abuse charges and are currently in the Nye County Detention Center.

On Tuesday, sheriff’s deputies, veterinarians, and animal control officers worked together to examine and tag the dogs.

The sheriff’s office says they are seeking a court order to authorize the removal of animals for placement with qualified foster groups. Shelters interested in helping care for the dogs can e-mail sheriff@co.nye.nv.us.
