Las Vegas, NV (KXNT) - Unlike the Kansas City Chiefs, Nevada sports books had a pretty good Super Bowl Sunday.

The underdog Buccaneers winning, combined with the game going under the total, yielded a win for the books of $12.57 million, according to new numbers released Tuesday by the Nevada Gaming Control Board.

On the down side, the total amount bet on the game - slightly more than $136 million - was the lowest handle since Super Bowl 50 back in 2016 .

By comparison, the largest amount ever bet on the game was $158.6 million for The Patriots/Eagles game back in 2018.

Analysts believe that the drop in the overall betting amount was due to capacity limits placed on casinos due to the coronavirus pandemic. Many may have used apps on their phones to wager, but with casinos only allowed to host at 25 capacity, that took its toll on the biggest sports betting day of the year
