Las Vegas, NV (KXNT) - Fire crews continue to make progrress battling the Cottonwood Valley Fire that's burning in Red Rock Canyon.

The fire burned an estimated 400 acres and is currently 50 percent contained.

Though an exact cause of the fire hasn't been publicized, fire investigators with the Bureau of Land Management say the fire was human-caused. The fire caused brief closures of State Route 160 when it was first reported on Monday afternoon.

Meanwhile, crews continue to gain the upper hand on the Sandy Valley Fire burning near Mt. Potosi. That fire has burned nearly 1,400 acres, but is currently 98 percent contained. Full containment of the Sandy Valley Fire is expected on Friday.

Investigators say that that fire was caused by a spark from target shooting.
