
Las Vegas, NV (KXNT) – The 3rd officer-involved shooting for the Las Vegas Metro Police Department in 2023 shut down a busy portion of Charleston Boulevard for the entire morning commute on Friday.
According to Metro, just before 1am, the department received a call from the Boulder City Police Department regarding a kidnapping. LVMPD saw a vehicle matching the description of the wanted suspect on Highway 95 a few miles south of Boulder City and gave chase.
The suspect's vehicle was eventually forcibly stopped near the intersection of Lamb and Charleston. During the incident the suspect pointed a gun towards an individual who was inside of the vehicle and an officer discharged his firearm, striking the suspect.
The officer involved in shooting has been identified as Officer Jonathan Collingwood. Collingwood, 40, has been employed with the LVMPD since 2006. He is assigned to the Homeland Security and Special Operations Bureau (SWAT).
Collingwood has been placed on routine paid administrative leave pending the outcome of a review of this incident.
Medical personnel transported the suspect to UMC Trauma where he is currently in critical condition. Three others in the car transported to local hospitals.
