Las Vegas, NV (KXNT) – Tuesday was sentencing day for two men who ran down and killed a retired police chief who was out for a morning bike ride back in August of 2023.
The driver of the car, 20-year-old Jesus Ayala, received a sentence of 20 years to life. The passenger in the car, 20-year-old Jzamir Keys, received a sentence of 15 years to life.
In a video seen around the world, Keys films Ayala as he deliberately runs over 64-year-old Andreas Probst, who was riding a bike near Centennial Parkway and Tenaya. Probst had retired to Las Vegas after serving as a police chief in Bell, California.
The pair had agreed to a plea deal prior to the sentencing, avoiding a jury trial. Because the crime as committed while the two were juveniles, they were not eligible for the death penalty. The sentence the two received was the maximum allowed under Nevada law.
