Security personnel at the casino were alerted to the situation and found the pup with its mouth taped shut. Casino security was able to get the dog out of the car by going through the car’s sunroof. The dog was left without food, water, or air conditioning.

The car was parked in the direct sunlight on the garage's top floor, police said, with temps in the car at rescue time nearing 110 degrees.

Hotel security said the vehicle was parked around 1 p.m, and that the owner was in the hotel for about an hour before he was arrested.

Raul Carbajal, of Corona Del Mar, California, faces a charge of animal abuse. Carbajal posted bond and is due in court next week.

The dog is recovering from the incident, but its overall condition hasn’t been said.
