Las Vegas, NV (KXNT) – More than two dozen special-needs kids, along with three adults, had to be rescued from a hiking trail out at the Lake Mead National Recreation Area Thursday afternoon after they were overcome by the heat.

Park officials say they group, who was hiking in the Arizona Hot Springs area of the park, didn’t have adequate supplies for the weather conditions, as temperatures pushed past the 100 degree mark.

National Park Service officials have temporarily closed both the Arizona Hot Springs and Goldstrike hiking trails through the weekend, until the weather is deemed cool enough for them to re-open. The trails will then be closed again over the summer months as the serious heat settles in.
