The crash happened at the intersection of Torrey Pines and Washington. Police say the driver of an SUV was heading westbound on Washington and sped through a red light, slamming into a driver who was making a turn through the intersection. The force of the crash sent that car into several other vehicles. In all, 6 vehicles were involved in the crash.

The man accused of causing the crash, identified as Jerry Medera, was taken to U.M.C. with non-life-threatening injuries. The person who was killed was identified as a 33-year-old woman, but her name hasn’t been released.

Police say both speed and impairment are considered to be factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.

Of those who were in the other vehicles involved, only one suffered minor injuries.
