Las Vegas, NV (KXNT) – Clark County School District students had Monday off for Labor Day, but for one Henderson elementary school, students got a 4-day weekend, and it was one that wasn’t expected.

Classes were canceled Monday at Gibson Elementary School due to a high number of teachers and other staff calling off sick.

CCSD has made no secret of a staffing shortage in the district, and there weren’t enough substitutes available to fill the gaps.

It wasn’t known how many staff members called off.

The district and the teachers’ union in in the middle of contentious contract negotiations, but the union said Tuesday’s incident at Gibson had nothing to do with earlier threats that teachers might take ”work actions” should a contract agreement fail to be reached

Classes were back in session on Wednesday.
