The first occurred downtown near Fremont and Oakey. Police say a man on a moped was attempting to make a turn when the bike slammed into the driver’s side of a car heading through the intersection. The man was thrown from the moped and died at the scene.

Police say the driver stayed on scene and impairment isn’t considered a factor.

Later on Tuesday night, police say a 16-year-old boy riding an electric scooter went through a red light at Boulder Highway and Indios and was struck by a bus. He died at the scene. Impairment isn’t considered a factor in that crash, either.

The deaths mark the 124th and 125th traffic-related fatalities in Metro’s jurisdiction in 2021.
