Settlement reached in fatal Alpine Motel fire

Las Vegas, NV (KXNT) – A settlement has reportedly been reached in a lawsuit against the former owner of a downtown motel where 6 people lost their lives in a fire in December of 2019.

Details of the settlement between the nearly 80 plaintiffs and the owner of the old Alpine Motel wasn’t made public.

The deadly fire started in one of the units as a tenant was using their stove for heat. As other apartments filled with smoke, investigators found that one of the exit doors to the building had been padlocked shot. It was also discovered that the building failed to have working smoke alarms

A criminal case against the old owners of the building is also underway.
