Shooting involving Henderson police leaves 1 man dead

Las Vegas, NV (KXNT) - A 71-year-old man was shot and killed Thursday morning by Henderson Police, marking that department's 2nd officer-involved shooting of 2025.

According to the Henderson Police Department, officers were conducting an investigation into a burglary in a neighborhood in the Sun City Anthem area of Henderson that happened on Wednesday afternoon and tracked a stolen vehicle from that burglary to an area near Boulder Highway and Twain.

According to a release from the department, detectives obtained probable cause and secured a search warrant for the residence associated with the suspect. The stolen vehicle was recovered a short distance away.

Thursday morning, HPD's SWAT team served the warrant at the residence. Upon entry, officers encountered the elderly man whom they say had a firearm.

During the encounter, one officer fired his weapon, striking the man. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.

No officers were injured.

The name of the man who was shot hasn't been released. The officer who fired the shots has been put on paid administrative leave pending the results of the investigation.
