Las Vegas, NV (KXNT) – A portion of Convention Center Drive was closed for several hours on Thursday as Las Vegas Metro Police investigated a small explosion that occurred outside of a restaurant.
According to Metro, the explosion outside of Piero’s happened in the 2am hour on Thursday, but wasn’t reported until a cleaning crew happened upon the device several hours later.
Metro was then called to the scene and shut down Convention Center Drive between The Strip and Paradise Road to investigate.
According to the LVMPD, the package was placed in front of the restaurant around 2:20am by two men dressed in all black, one of whom arrived on a scooter.
Both suspects approached the front door of the restaurant and placed an improvised explosive device down. The device was then set on fire and, after several moments, detonated, causing damage to the unoccupied building.
Metro Sheriff Kevin McMahill emphasized that there is no known or ongoing threat to public safety, and the community remains safe.
Anyone with additional information is being asked to call metro or Crime Stoppers (702-385-5555, www.crimestoppersofnv.com) if you wish to remain anonymous.
