Suspected car thief shot by North Las Vegas Police

Las Vegas, NV (KXNT) – North Las Vegas Police were involved in a shooting early Wednesday with a suspected teenage car thief.

Police originally responded to a call of a person breaking into cars in a neighborhood near Valley and Washburn.

Investigators say when they encountered the suspect and announced their presence, he responded by firing a gun. Officers returned fire, then chased the suspect on foot.

During the chase, police say more shots were exchanged, with the suspect suffering wounds to his arm. He was taken into custody a short time later.

No police officers were hurt.

The suspect, a 15-year-old boy, is believed to be responsible for numerous car break-ins near the neighborhood where the shooting occurred.
