Toddler struck and killed at Las Vegas park

Impairment not suspected to be a factor

Las Vegas, NV (KXNT) - A 2-year-old was struck and killed at a Las Vegas park on Monday night.

It happened just after 7:30pm at Douglas A. Selby Park on Sandhill between Washington and Owens. Police say a large pickup that was making a turn to leave the park when the toddler ran in front of the vehicle and was struck.

The child was taken to University Medical Center, but died from the injuries suffered. The driver of the pickup, 19-year-old Nayeli Gomez, remained at the scene and was not impaired. Excessive speed did not appear to be a causative factor, but the accident remains under investigation. The identity of the child hasn't been released yet.

The juvenile's death marked the 59th traffic-related fatality in the LVMPD's jurisdiction for the year 2021.
