The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported Monday that Fire Department Chief Jeff Buchanan and Deputy Chief Dina Dalessio recently put in for retirement within a week of each other.

This news comes amid a probe spurred by a letter sent last year to the city manager from an assistant fire chief.

The newspaper obtained the letter through a public records request. Jon Stevenson, the assistant fire chief, accuses Dalessio of unprofessional behavior like demeaning staff and discriminating against a candidate for assistant chief because he belonged to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He also accused Dalessio and Buchanan of not carrying out COVID-19 vaccination efforts.

In a statement last month—a day after her retirement announcement—Dalessio told the newspaper the accusations were “baseless” and “without merit.”

Buchanan, who will retire in May, has not commented publicly on the story.

With 700 employees, the Las Vegas Fire Department is the city’s largest department.
