Las Vegas, NV (KXNT) – UNLV President Keith Whitfield announced Monday night that he would be stepping down from his position, one that he’s held since 2020.

Whitfield’s announcement shocked those in attendance at the annual UNLV Foundation Dinner at the Bellagio.

In announcing his resignation Whitfield cited family as the reason, including taking care of his mom as well as a grandson who he said had health challenges.

Whitfield’s run as president was marked by two tumultuous event; adjusting to the COVID-19 pandemic, and dealing with the aftermath of the December 2023 shooting on campus that left three staff members dead.
