Las Vegas, NV (KXNT) - Times Square might be the most hashtag-worthy spot for ringing in the new year, but it's certainly not the best if you're a frugal partier seeking an equally grand experience.

Local businesses are notorious for hiking up their prices when big crowds are in town for a major event. That’s especially true for hotels, which can experience price increases of several hundred percent over the rest of the year. The last thing you want to do in the final hours of 2021 is ruin your finances over one night of entertainment.

The financial website WalletHub just released its annual ‘Best Cities for New Year’s’ survey and Las Vegas residents need not travel far from home to find fun and (somewhat) affordable options to ring in 2022. In fact, WalletHub found only one city it ranked higher than Vegas.

WalletHub compared the 100 biggest cities based on 28 key indicators of an epic New Year’s Eve celebration, ranging from legality of fireworks to average price of a New Year’s Eve party ticket to forecasted precipitation for Dec. 31.

No surprise to see that New York City was ranked #1, followed by Las Vegas, Orlando, Atlanta and Miami.

Hurting Las Vegas’ overall score was a low ranking in the ‘Costs’ (80th) category .

Interestingly, North Las Vegas came in at the very bottom of the rankings of 100 cities, ranking dead last in the ‘Entertainment and Food’ category, and 3rd from the bottom in the category of ‘Costs’. Reno was ranked 47th, Henderson 58th.
