West-side apartment fire leaves one dead, one missing

Las Vegas, NV (KXNT) – One person was killed in a fire that raced through a west-side apartment complex Tuesday morning.

The fire was first reported at The Tides on Charleston complex near Charleston and Torrey Pines around 5am. Crews responding to the scene had the fire under control within 90 minutes.

Six people had to be taken to the hospital with injuries, many of those sustained because they jumped from their 2nd-floor units. Four remained hospitalized as of Tuesday afternoon.

One firefighter was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. He was released Tuesday afternoon.

As crews were searching the damage they discovered a body. That person has yet to be identified. A second person remains unaccounted for.

It’s not yet known how the fire started, nor has there been any initial damage estimate.

The American Red Cross will be assisting with those who were displaced by the fire.
