Arrest made in central Valley apartment fire that left more than 20 homeless

Las Vegas, NV (KXNT) – Close to two dozen people were displaced after fire raced through a central valley apartment complex Monday morning.

Clark County Fire and Rescue responded to the call at the Shadowbrook Apartments near Viking and Wynn around 8; 45am and arrived to see thick smoke billowing from one of building's rooftops.

It took firefighters about 45 minutes to put out the blaze.

The building, which housed 15 apartments, was declared a total loss. Dame is estimated at $2 million.

Clark County Fire issued a news release on Tuesday, saying that the fire was caused by arson, and announced an arrest of the person thought responsible. Mariza Atreaga Muller has been book on charges of 1st Degree Arson & False Statement to Obstruct a Public Officer.

Though a cause hasn’t been determined, CCFD said in a statement that one person was detained and questioned, and is currently in custody.

In total, 18 adults, 3 children, and 10 pets are getting help from the Red Cross to find a new place to stay. No injuries were reported.
