Las Vegas, NV (KXNT) – The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) is enhancing its wrong-way driver detection and warning system by fully implementing it at four interchanges in Southern Nevada.

The project is scheduled to start on Sunday, and will take approximately 8 weeks to complete, with work being done at the following ramps:

I-15 at Starr Ave

U.S. 95 at Kyle Canyon Rd

U.S 95 at Skye Canyon Dr

U.S. 95 at Durango Dr

Occasional overnight lane restrictions or ramp closures may be necessary weeknights between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m.

The system employs radar and closed-circuit cameras to automatically identify vehicles entering in the wrong direction. This triggers two sets of red flashing wrong-way signs on the ramp.

The first set of signs is four feet in height, intentionally designed to be more visible to drivers who might be drowsy or impaired, effectively signaling them to stop and avoid proceeding in the wrong direction.

Currently, NDOT places "Wrong Way" signs at all freeway off ramps to alert drivers who inadvertently enter in the wrong direction.
