Six Flags Over Texas has postponed the debut of its highly anticipated Tormenta Rampaging Run roller coaster, the park announced this week.
The record-breaking dive coaster, billed as the tallest, fastest, and longest of its kind in the world, was scheduled to open Friday at the Arlington theme park. Park officials cited a longer-than-expected commissioning and testing process as the reason for the delay. No new opening date has been set.
Tormenta, located in the Spain section of the park, stands 309 feet tall and features six world records, including the tallest dive coaster loop. It replaces several older attractions and is part of broader efforts to refresh the 65-year-old park following its integration into the Six Flags-Cedar Fair merger.
The delay comes as Six Flags Over Texas continues to navigate operational challenges that have drawn attention from enthusiasts. The park has faced criticism in recent years for ride downtime, maintenance issues, and attendance fluctuations. Officials emphasized that the pause ensures the ride meets the highest safety and performance standards before welcoming guests.
Located between Dallas and Fort Worth, Six Flags Over Texas remains a major summer destination for North Texas families, drawing hundreds of thousands of visitors annually. The Tormenta project represents a significant investment aimed at boosting excitement and repeat visitation in the competitive theme park market.
Park representatives apologized for the inconvenience to guests and said they will share updates as soon as more information is available. The announcement also affected a scheduled media preview event.
