Carson City, NV (KXNT) - With major highway improvements taking place across the region, the Nevada Department of Transportation and Nevada State Police, Highway Patrol are reminding motorists to drive safely in road work zones, including during National Work Zone Awareness Week going on now through April 21.

Drivers will see multiple road work zones as NDOT and partners invest heavily in road improvement projects across southern Nevada. That includes lane and periodic intersection closures as NDOT widens and improves the I-15/Tropicana Interchange, completes the Centennial Bowl, adds lanes to I-515 around the Charleston Curve and numerous other projects.

NDOT places work zone signage, reduced speed limits, temporary rumble strips and safety barriers, electronic radar speed signs, overhead lighting and more to enhance visibility and safety of highway work zones.

“We have Troopers stationed in active highway road work zones to ensure the safety of travelers and those working.” Nevada State Police Major Kevin Honea explained. “If you see a work zone, slow down and follow the work zone speed limits, buckle up and focus on the road so that everyone can go home safely to their loved ones.”

Fines can be doubled for speeding in marked work zones when workers are present. State road construction updates are available by logging onto NVRoads.com or calling ‘511’ before driving.
