Las Vegas, NV (KXNT) - A 52 year old man who escaped capture by law enforcement almost three decades after escaping from a Nevada prison was returned to the state this week.
U.S. Marshals Service extradited Samuel Gallardo to Nevada from Mexico. Gallardo, 52, was arrested in Mexico after being on the run for 27 years.
Gallardo had escaped from Nevada Department of Corrections (NDOC) custody in 1994 after having served less than a year of his sentence and had been a fugitive ever since.
In 1992 Gallardo, then 24, was driving while intoxicated when he drove onto the interstate ramp in the wrong direction striking another vehicle head on. The driver of the vehicle, Gary Selby Jr., 18, was killed instantly and his passengers were seriously injured in the crash.
Gallardo was convicted of DUI causing death or serious bodily injury and received a 40-year sentence.
He was found living in Nayarit, Mexico, and subsequently arrested and extradited back to the U.S. to serve the remainder of his sentence in NDOC custody.
