Nevada ranked as one of the worst places for military retirees

High percentage of homeless vets hurt overall ranking

Las Vegas, NV (KXNT) - Despite being home to several military bases, a new survey from the financial website WalletHub isn’t kind to Nevada when it comes to areas where those in the military should stay once their days of service come to an end.

In a new survey of the 50 states and the District of Columbia, Nevada ranks only ahead of Vermont when it comes to states where veterans should enjoy their retirement.

WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia based on their ability to provide a comfortable military retirement, using a data set of 29 key metrics, ranging from veterans per capita to number of VA health facilities to job opportunities for veterans.

Hurting Nevada’s overall ranking was a tie for last in the category of ‘Percentage of Homeless Vets’, and a last place ranking in ‘Job opportunities’.

Overall, Virginia took the top spot in the survey, followed by Florida, Minnesota, Maryland and New Hampshire.

Rounding out the bottom five with Vermont and Nevada were the District of Columbia, Oregon and Washington.
