CARSON CITY – As the Real ID deadline approaches on May 7, the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) will allow customers needing a Real ID to visit a DMV metro office without an appointment on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3-4 p.m. now through May 15.

Nevadans seeking a Real ID can walk into DMV offices in Reno, Carson City, Sahara, Flamingo, Decatur and Henderson DMVs during the designated hours each week. These spots are limited and offered on a first-come, first-served basis until the offices reach capacity.

“Nevada is currently sitting at 80% compliancy with Real IDs, which is amazing,” said DMV Director Tonya Laney. “These walk-ins are really for those who are in need of obtaining a Real ID if they do not already have an unexpired passport or military ID they can show when flying or entering federal facilities.”

A Real ID is not required, and an individual can choose if they wish to apply for one. An existing driver’s license or driver authorization card (DAC) will still allow valid driving privileges on Nevada roadways.

Customers can visit www.getrealnevada.com to see if they need a Real ID and if so, find out what documents they need to bring to their appointment. All licenses and ID cards will be mailed to the address on file and can be tracked with a MyDMV account..”

The DMV still encourages customers to make appointments for all other services during business hours, or to visit the DMV website and complete transactions that are currently available online.
