Las Vegas, NV (KXNT) - As wildfire smoke from California affects the valley, agencies from several Southern Nevada fire departments are heading north to help those battling the Davis Fire burning near Reno.
On Wednesday, a 34-person strike team comprised of Clark County, Las Vegas, Henderson, and North Las Vegas Fire Departments headed north to help in the firefighting efforts.
It’s estimated that they could be there for a couple of weeks, but that depends on what have been constantly shifting positions.
The Davis Fire broke out last Saturday southwest of Reno and has burned just over 5,800 acres. Containment is currently at 38 percent.
Firefighting efforts Wednesday were hampered by persistent high winds, with all schools in the Washoe County School District closed as a precaution.
