Las Vegas, NV (AP) - The pilot of a small plane that crash-landed Wednesday on the median of a southern Nevada highway was uninjured and got out before the aircraft started to burn, authorities said.
The plane went down just north of Creech Air Force Base on Highway 95, bursting into flames shortly after landing
The pilot declined medical treatment after the crash, the Nye County Sheriff’s Office said in a brief statement.
The pilot told passers-by that his plane lost power and that he was unable to lower the landing gear.
The pilot was the only person aboard the single-engine Lancair IV and nobody on the ground was injured, the Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement.
All lanes on Highway 95 were closed north of Indian Springs for several hours for crash investigation and cleanup.
The FAA said it and the National Transportation Safety Board would investigate.
