PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Drexel Dragons will play their first road Colonial Athletic Association game of the season Thursday night when they visit the Towson Tigers.

Drexel is playing good basketball these days. The Dragons have won their last two games — and four of their last five — to improve to 9-7 (2-1 CAA). Head coach Zach Spiker said their defense really keyed this recent surge.

"Our defense has been consistent," he said. "We've played away from home. Our defense traveled well to our neutral site event in Atlantic City. We've defended the three ball pretty well against some teams that really got them up, in terms of Norfolk State and Quinnipiac. Then to come home and do the same thing against, I think, one of the most talented Delaware teams maybe since they went to the NCAA Tournament, I thought the guys played really, really hard."

The win over Delaware was the most recent victory for the Dragons. They beat the rival Blue Hens 61-55 on Friday night at the DAC.

In addition to good defense, Spiker said there is a lot more to like about his team right now.

"Our team chemistry is good," he said. "Guys know what each other can do. We also know where the ball needs to be at certain times of the game and certain situations. We're continuing to evolve our roles on the offensive end. But Cam Wynter has closed out a couple games, making big, big plays late. For him to have that confidence and to do that, it just gives us more weapons on the offensive end."

Towson brings a 7-9 record (1-2 CAA) into Thursday night's game. The Tigers are led by senior guard Brian Fobbs and his 15.1 points per game.

"Towson is a very, very physical team," Spiker noted. "Strong, active on the glass. They can hit threes and get it going. So we really need to be locked in in every aspect of the game to have success on the road at Towson."

Drexel will be trying to win its first true road game of the season in this one (0-5), while Towson has lost its last two home games.

Tipoff on Thursday night begins at 6 p.m.
